Asparagus Officinalis – 1g – Approx 55 seeds

First introduced in the 1870s, Connover’s Colossal is a much-loved heirloom that has stood the test of time. Victorian gardeners prized it for its reliability, generous growth and exceptional flavour – qualities that still make it a favourite today.

Growing asparagus from seed is a slower journey, but it is absolutely worth it. Seed-grown asparagus often establishes into stronger plants because they adapt to your unique growing conditions right from the start, and because this heritage variety will keep producing for up to 20 years, your patience now will reward you for decades. Once you’ve grown your own asparagus, you’ll never look at supermarket bundles the same way again!

Sow indoors in Jan – Apr. Sow in trays or modules at 18-20°c. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into small pots and grow on. Keep under cover for the first winter, then plant into 20cm deep trenches the following April (Year 2). Harvest a small amount in Year 2 and a full crop from Year 3 onwards.
