Pak Choi ‘Shanghai Green’ is a dwarf, open-pollinated pak choi. It is popular worldwide and especially loved for its mild flavour and compact size. It goes by several other names, including: Shanghai Bok Choi, Shanghai Qing, Green Stem Bok Choi, Shanghai Qing Cai, Spoon Cabbage, Shanghai Qing, Shanghai Qing, and Spoon Cabbage. In traditional produce markets it’s also sometimes labelled simply as ‘Spoon Cabbage’ because of the rounded, smooth leaf shape.

Pak Choi is a cold tolerant vegetable making it ideal for growing in our cooler months.

A key ingredient in Asian cuisine, pak choi can either be used as a salad leaf or can be blanched, steamed or stir fried but care should be taken not to overcook it as you want to retain a crunch in the stalk.

Pak Choi seeds should be direct sown from spring to early summer and again in late summer. Early and late sowings can be made under cover. The plants should be watered regularly as they grow to avoid bolting.
